UW-Stevens Point rolls past Cardinals 8-0

WINONA, Minn. — If anything could go wrong for the Saint Mary's University women's soccer team Saturday afternoon, it did.

The Cardinals ran into an offensive buzz-saw in their nonconference game against UW-Stevens Point, as the Pointers — ranked No. 5 in the latest NCAA Division III Western Region poll — scored three goals in the first half, then added five more in the second en route to an 8-0 rout of SMU.

"It was one of those games," said SMU coach Dan Blank, whose team has now lost two straight. "We played all right for about the first 30 minutes, then we made a couple of mistakes and the roof caved in."

SMU managed just two shots on UW-Stevens Point goalkeeper Abby Rabinovitz, who posted her 30th career shutout and lowered her goals-against-average to 0.19, which ranks her third in NCAA Division III this season.

Colleen O'Hearn (Champlin, Minn.), Emily Strom (Waterford, Wis.) and Dianna Kyllo (Kasson, Minn.) all saw action in the SMU goal, combining for 15 saves.

The Cardinals return to action Wednesday, playing host to Augsburg in the final home game for seniors Erin Elder (Bloomington, Minn.), Katie State (Mound, Minn.) and Sarah Johnson (Coon Rapids, Minn.). Game time is 4 p.m.
