Final Regular-Season Game
Second-half goals lifts SMU to tie with Auggies

WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's soccer team snapped a two-game losing streak, getting a second-half goal from freshman Alicia Knutson (Cottage Grove, Minn.) to salvage a 1-1 tie with Augsburg Wednesday afternoon.

The Auggies wasted little time getting on the board, as Brenda Selander beat SMU goalie Colleen O'Hearn (Champlin, Minn.) with a shot just three minutes into the first half. Thanks to the early wake-up call, the Cardinals turned up the heat, dominating the remainder of the first half, before finally netting the equalizer at the 53:00-minute mark as Knutson took a feed from senior Erin Elder (Bloomington, Minn.) and tapped it past Augsburg goalie Katie Cheese.

It was the final collegiate home game for Elder and teammates Katie State (Mound, Minn.) and Sarah Johnson (Coon Rapids, Minn.), who will close out their SMU careers on the road when the Cardinals (4-4-1, 8-8-1) travel to Hamline Saturday.
