Cardinals' offense stays in high gear with 7-1 victory over MSOE MILWAUKEE, Wis. The goals and the wins keep piling up for the Saint Mary's University women's soccer team. The Cardinals erupted for a season-high seven goals, as SMU pushed its season-opening winning streak to five straight with a 7-1 nonconference rout of Milwaukee School of Engineering Thursday evening. "It was a good win," said SMU coach Tony Guinn. "The field was really slick and wet, which made things a little tricky, but offensively we did a nice job of getting the ball to our forwards and once they got it, they did a nice job of finishing their (offensive) chances." Lisa Tlougan (Rochester, Minn.) and Bethany Kaufmann (Green Bay, Wis.) gave SMU an early 2-0 lead, but the Raiders cut the gap to 2-1 with their lone goal at the 20:46 mark. From there, however, it was all SMU, as the Cardinals got a goal from Emily Berg (Owatonna, Minn.) before the half ended and second-half goals from Dana Winkler (Lake Geneva, Wis.), Keirra Metcalfe (Pickering, Ontario) and two from Melisa Entinger (Mound, Minn.). "This is a really tough stretch for us, and it's nice to see us keep playing at a very high level," said Guinn, whose team is in the midst of a six-games-in-eight-day stretch. "We've been fortunate to stay healthy hopefully that will continue through the weekend." |
