MIAC Playoff Picture

The Cardinals enter today with 10 points in MIAC play, two points behind St. Thomas and three back of Augsburg for the fourth and final MIAC playoff spot. SMU, which closes out its conference schedule with home games against Bethel (0-7-1) and St. Catherine (1-6-2), must win both games — and have St. Thomas and Augsburg both must lose today (UST vs. St. Ben’s and Augsburg vs. Gustavus) and then tie when they face each other on Saturday — to have any chance at making its first post-season appearance since 1994. With one win, the worst St. Thomas could do is finish in a tie with SMU, and the Tommies hold the tiebreaker thanks to their 1-0 2 OT win on Oct. 8. SMU holds the tiebreaker over Augsburg — having handed the Auggies their first loss of the season, 1-0, on Oct. 15 — but one Augsburg win or two ties would knock out the Cardinals.
