WINONA, Minn. Amy Cory (Crystal Lake, Ill.) turned a lot of heads during her freshman season for the Saint Mary's University women's soccer team.
And those efforts did not go unnoticed around the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Cory was one of just two freshman named to the 19-player All-MIAC First Team, it was announced Monday.
Cory appeared in all 11 conference games for the Cardinals, who finished with a 4-7-0 MIAC record and a 7-10-1 overall mark. The freshman forward scored eight goals for a team-leading 16 points. Her eight goals ranked her third in the conference behind MIAC Player of the Year Morgan Bain of Concordia (17 goals) and Macalester's Annie Borton (10), while her 16 points put her fifth among MIAC players.
For the season, Cory finished with 14 goals and 18 points. Her 14 goals are the most by an SMU player since Julie Giebe scored 17 in both 1995 and 1996.
Teammate Jennifer Johnson (Racine, Wis.), a sophomore goalkeeper, was an honorable-mention All-MIAC selection, after posting a 2.26 goals-against-average and an .843 save percentage in nine MIAC games.
