The Cardinals jumped out to a 2-0 first-period lead, gave up a pair of second-period goals, then got the game-winner from Amy Madden (East Grand Rapids, Mich.) — her second of the game — with less than six minutes remaining in regulation to beat St. Olaf 3-2 at the SMU Ice Arena.

The Cardinals had the upper hand in their regular-season meetings with St. Olaf a year ago, winning 3-1 and 4-3, but it was the Oles who got the best of SMU in the opening round of the MIAC Tournament, giving up three second-period goals in a 4-2 win. …

With their win vs. St. Olaf Friday ‚ coupled with their two wins vs. St. Catherine a week ago, the Cardinals have now won three straight games for the second time this season. SMU's three-game win streak is also its longest since stringing together five straight wins from Jan. 27-Feb. 10, 2006. … SMU has now won five of its last six games. …  The Cardinals' three goals vs. St. Olaf marked the third straight game in which SMU has scored three goals and marks the fifth time this season they have scored three times. … Amy Madden (East Grand Rapids, Mich.), who scored twice vs. the Oles Friday, has now scored at least one goal in four of SMU's last five games. … SMU scored two goals in the first period Friday — the third straight game in which the Cardinals have scored twice in the first period. … SMU holds a 19-16 edge in first-period scoring, but have been outscored 22-7 in the second — including 2-0 Friday. … Melissa Mondo (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) remains the team-leader in goals (11) and points (19).
