It’s finally time to say goodbye to something that has been part of my life for 18 years. It has been a wonderful journey and I have met a lot of incredible people along the way. There are some people I would like to thank who have been with me for parts of my journey, as well as others who have been there the whole time.
First and foremost, I would like to thank my family. Mom and Dad, thank you for all your support and time you have put forth in helping me succeed, not only as a player but as a person. Without you guys, I would not be here at SMU, I would probably be living in the basement and going to CC. I wanted to thank you for all the driving you have done as well. Driving to Detroit three times a week and who knows where on the weekend for two years is a lot, and not many parents would do that. You knew hockey was what I loved and made sure I was always happy. I think those car rides made us closer and I am thankful for them. I know I have been difficult at times, but I was just trying to keep you guys on your toes. A girl couldn’t ask for better parents. I love you. To my sister and brother-in-law, Sarah and Josh, thank you for your love and support you guys have given me the past couple years. Sarah, I am sorry you had to be the hockey sister and deal with all the traveling. Thank you for all your love and support and I wish you and josh the best of luck in the years to come. I love you guys. To my brother and sister in law, Jason and Jen, thanks for all the support you have given me.
Next, I would like to thank my fellow seniors. Even though I have only been here for three years, it feels like I have been here all four years with you guys. We have been through a lot in the past couple of years, and I think that has brought us closer. You guys are my family away from home and have always been there for me when I needed it. You guys have taught me many of life’s lessons, and I wish you girls the best of luck next year and the years to come. Also to Becky-Mule! Jenna-thank god for Michigan fans! Ribbit- you are a talented individual and have a great future ahead of you. Thanks for the great memories and the ones still to come!
To Terry and Coach A, thank you for all the time and effort you have put into our team the past couple of years. You guys have helped develop and improve my playing abilities. Thank you. I am sorry for all the grey hairs we have given you. I wish you guys the best of luck with the years to come and keep it up with those pre-season drylands!
To Jenn and La, I don’t even know where to start with you two. Words can’t really express how much you two mean to me. First, I really wish you guys were here tonight to play with me on my last collegiate game. It was tough at first to let you guys go but I know you guys are experiencing something that will only happen once in your lifetime. You guys have made my 3 years at SMU a memorable experience, especially my senior year. We have had a lot of fun times in the old and cant wait for more times to come. I miss you guys and hope you are having a blast in Australia. Thank you for always being there for me. La-we are like two peas in a pod, and I don’t know what I would have done with out you here.
Valerie (Crash) - I have had a great time with you these past three years and during the summer. (Brat days and the zamboni pretty much sums it up) This summer I really got to get to know you better with the many hours we spent together. You are a great friend to me and you were always there to listen. We have a couple months left with each other so let’s make is memorable. You are a great leader and a very hard worker. Keep up the good work and keep the girls in line next year. Just remember not to take those turns so wide on the zamboni!
Chown- I wish you could be out there with us tonight. You showed a lot of dedication and passion for the game of hockey. No matter what the situation was, you were always positive and supporting. Keep being a strong person and I know you be successful with whatever you do in the future.
Jill and Hadley, keep up the good work and I wish you guys the best of luck for the rest of your time here. Make sure you guys stay out of trouble and I’ll be back to visit. Jill, keep being strong and being who you are. Thank you for always being there for me, and just remember I am only a phone call away.
To the rest of the team, keep working hard and thank you for making my time at SMU a memorable part of my life.
Next, I would like to thank my boyfriend, Patrick. Your support has been everlasting and I truly appreciate it. Thanks for putting up with my blonde moments and always being there for me when I needed it. You are an amazing boyfriend and thank you for everything you done and given me. I love you.
To Steph and Maddy, thank you for the support you guys have given me as well. You guys have helped me through my years at SMU. Maddy, pines pretty much sums it up. You have been a great roommate for my stay at SMU. You have taught me so much and have helped me grow as an individual. We have had great memories together and know there are more to come. Steph- Thanks for being supportive and always being there for me. You two are amazing friends. I love you both and know I am always there for you two.
To my friends from home, Morgan, Josh, Kim, and Mary. No matter how many miles away we are from each other you guys are always there for me through the good times and the bad. Thank you for the support you guys have given me through my many years of playing hockey. I love you guys and miss you tons!!
Finally, to Denny, Coach F, Terry and Coach O- thank you for all the time and effort you guys have put into the ice rink. Without all that work, we wouldn’t have one of the best rinks. Also thanks for having faith in Val and me for driving the zamboni and painting.
