Nikki Jung (Inver Grove Heights) stopped 52 Gustavus shots Friday, but it was not enough as GAC got three goals from Kelly Crandall en route to a 4-0 victory in St. Peter, Minn. … The Gusties boast a 16-5-3 overall record vs. the Cardinals, including a 10-0-1 record in their last 11 meetings. … SMU has not beaten GAC since the 2001-02 season, when the Cardinals knocked off the Gusties 2-1 in the championship game of the MIAC Tournament. GAC turned the tables three days later, beating SMU 2-0 in the NCAA Championships quarterfinals. … Over the past three years, Gustavus has outshot the Cardinals 390-91 and outscored them 40-4 including Friday’s 4-0 GAC win. … In their two meetings last year, GAC peppered the SMU net with 114 shots 57 in both wins (4-2 and 10-0). … The Gusties have had 50 or more shots on goal in each of the teams’ last five meetings. … Gustavus has lost just three conference games in the last three years all to St. Thomas (2-1 in 2004-05, and 3-1 and 4-2 in 2003-04).

SMU’s loss to Gustavus was its second straight. … The Cardinals head into today’s rematch with GAC winless in its three Saturday games this season (4-2 loss to UW-Superior, 3-3 tie vs. Augsburg and 3-2 loss to Saint Benedict). … SMU’s shutout loss was the first of the season first since Bethel blanked the Cardinals 2-0 on Feb. 24, 2006. … Nikki Jung (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) kicked out 52 shots vs. the Gusties Friday. It was the second time this season the SMU senior has stopped 50 or more shots in a game. … With her two goals and one assist against Saint Benedict last weekend, Melissa Mondo (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) extended her team-leading totals to six goals, three assists and nine points. … Mondo’s two goals were the 40th and 41st of her career, moving her into fourth all-time. Mondo is also seventh all-time in points with 77. Heading into last Saturday’s Game 2 vs. Saint Benedict, Mondo had had a hand in five straight SMU goals two goals and an assist in a 3-3 tie vs. Augsburg and a goal and an assist in Friday’s 2-1 win vs. Saint Benedict. That streak was snapped with Amy Madden’s (East Grand Rapids, Mich.) third-period goal vs. CSB last Saturday.

The Gusties enter tonight’s game ranked No. 3 in the latest USCHO.com poll. GAC moved up from the No. 4 spot after beating Hamline 8-1 and 4-3 last week. … After opening the season with a 5-4 loss to UW-Stevens Point, the Gusties have rattled off six straight wins. … Kelly Crandall scored three goals vs. the Cardinals on Friday. … With two assists last weekend against the Pipers, Andrea Peterson upped her career point total to 155 on 70 goals and 85 assists. Peterson now sits alone in second place on the MIAC’s all-time scoring chart, passing Tomery Stolz of St. Thomas (76-78154; 2000-03) and Missy Westergren of Saint Mary’s (80-74154; 1997-2001). Sarah Moe is currently the MIAC’s all-time leading scorer. Moe compiled 181 points on 99 goals and 82 assists while playing for Gustavus and Augsburg from 1998-2002.
