The Cardinals got goals from five different players as SMU gave head coach Terry Mannor his first collegiate coaching win with a 5-1, season-opening victory over the Blugolds in the teams' first meeting a year ago. UWEC had the upperhand in the rematch, scoring four unanswered goals in beating SMU 4-2. … The Cardinals got goals from Melissa Mondo and Amy Madden, and a 50-save effort from Nikki Jung, en route to a season-opening 2-2 tie vs. UW-River Falls last Friday. … UW-Eau Claire, meanwhile, opened its season with back-to-back nonconference losses to MIAC foes Bethel (5-2) and St. Thomas (4-2) last weekend.

The Cardinals are now 3-5-1 in season-openers all-time. … Nikki Jung (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) stopped 50 shots in the tie vs. UW-River Falls the second time in her four year career the SMU goalie has stopped 50 or more shots. The 50-save effort was five short of her career-best 55 saves vs. Gustavus a year ago. … Amy Madden (East Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Melissa Mondo (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) accounted for SMU's two goals vs. the Falcons. … Mondo's goal was the 36th of her career, ranking her sixth all-time. She is also seventh all-time in points with 69. … All four goals scored vs. the Falcons came in the third period.
