Cardinal In The Spotlight

Jenna Roland

Year: Senior

Pos.: Defense

Hometown: Boyne City, MI

Major: Biology / Pre-P.T.

From Coach Mannor: “It’s apparent that Jenna was determined to make this her best season at SMU. Her work ethic has been both impressive and contagious. Through strong defensive play and a quality shot from the point, Jenna is a solid player at both ends of the ice.”

Game Notes
The Cardinals got goals from five different players as SMU gave head coach Terry Mannor his first collegiate coaching win with a 5-1, season-opening victory over the Blugolds in the teams' first meeting a year ago. UWEC had the upperhand in the rematch, scoring four unanswered goals in beating SMU 4-2. … The Cardinals got goals from Melissa Mondo and Amy Madden, and a 50-save effort from Nikki Jung, en route to a season-opening 2-2 tie vs. UW-River Falls last Friday. … UW-Eau Claire, meanwhile, opened its season with back-to-back nonconference losses to MIAC foes Bethel (5-2) and St. Thomas (4-2) last weekend.

Cardinal Notes

Nikki Jung
50 saves vs.
River Falls.
SMU has not lost a season opener since falling to Lake Forest 3-2 to kick off the 2002-2003 season. The Cardinals are now 3-5-1 in season-openers all-time. … Nikki Jung (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) stopped 50 shots in the tie vs. UW-River Falls — the second time in her four year career the SMU goalie has stopped 50 or more shots. The 50-save effort was five short of her career-best 55 saves vs. Gustavus a year ago. … Amy Madden (East Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Melissa Mondo (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) accounted for SMU's two goals vs. the Falcons. … Mondo's goal was the 36th of her career, ranking her sixth all-time. She is also seventh all-time in points with 69. … All four goals scored vs. the Falcons came in the third period.
