The Royals' back-to-back losses to Hamline extended their losing streak to three straight. … The Royals have scored just two goals during their current three-game slide, and have managed just three goals in their last six contests. … After opening the season with three wins in their first four games — outscoring its opponents 15-6 in the process — Bethel has managed just 19 goals in its last 19 games. … Sandra Felten and Bethany Murphy have been the Royals' top guns this season, with Felten leading the team in goals (13) and points (22), while Murphy boasts a team-best 11 assists and is second in points with 22. … Goalie Beth Spurrier has played every game for the Royals, compiling a 2.93 goals-against-average and a .930 save percentage. … Four of Bethel's 11 losses have come by one goal, while three of the Royals' six wins have been by one goal.

The Cardinals got two goals from Amy Madden (East Grand Rapids, Mich.) — her second with less than six minutes remaining in regulation — as SMU opened its MIAC series vs. St. Olaf last weekend with a 3-2 win. In the rematch, however, St. Olaf scored five unanswered goals en route to a 5-1 win. … Bethel, meanwhile, managed just two goals in falling to Hamline 3-1 and 2-1 last weekend.

Bethel scored twice in the second period and goalie Beth Spurrier stopped all 26 SMU shots as the Royals blanked the Cardinals 2-0 in the first of their two meetings a year ago. SMU got two goals from Jenn Shire (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) in earning an MIAC split with a 5-3 win in the rematch.

With their split vs. St. Olaf last weekend, the Cardinals find themselves in fifth place in the MIAC standings, two points back of both St. Olaf and Hamline — and three points in front of Bethel — in the race for one of the five MIAC playoff spots. A sweep of the Royals this weekend would assure the Cardinals a berth in the conference tournament for the seventh straight time. … SMU's loss to St. Olaf Saturday snapped the Cardinals' season-high three-game winning streak. … SMU's three-game win streak was its longest since stringing together five straight wins from Jan. 27-Feb. 10, 2006. … SMU has now won six of its last seven games. …  The Cardinals' three goals vs. St. Olaf Friday marked the third straight game in which SMU has scored three goals and marked the fifth time this season they have scored three times. … Amy Madden (East Grand Rapids, Mich.), who scored twice vs. the Oles Friday, has now scored at least one goal in four of SMU's last six games. … SMU scored two goals in the first period Friday — the third straight game in which the Cardinals have scored twice in the first period. … SMU holds a 19-18 edge in first-period scoring, but have been outscored 22-7 in the second — including 2-0 Friday and 1-0 on Saturday. … Melissa Mondo (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) netted SMU's lone goal in Saturday's loss and remains the team-leader in goals (12) and points (20).
