Melissa Mondo (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) scored three unanswered goals, erasing an early 1-0 St. Catherine advantage and leading the Cardinals to a 5-2 win over the Wildcats Friday night in St. Paul, Minn. … SMU and St. Catherine split their MIAC regular-season series last season, with the Wildcats winning the first game 2-1, while the Cardinals took Game 2, 3-1. … The Wildcats’ Game 1 win a year ago was the first time St. Catherine had beaten SMU in the teams’ 14-game history. SMU is now 12-1-1 vs. CSC.

The Cardinals’ win over St. Catherine on Friday extended their winning streak to a season-high five straight. … Melissa Mondo’s (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) hat trick against the Wildcats Friday was her first of the season and the second of her career. … Mondo who led the team in goals (8) and points (14) a year ago already has surpassed those numbers with her team-leading nine goals and 17 points. … Laura Mueller (St. Paul, Minn.) and Jill Rhody (St. Paul, Minn.) each picked up two assists vs. St. Catherine. … Mueller now shares the team’s assist lead (8) with Mondo. … Friday’s five-goal offensive output equals the Cardinals team high (SMU also scored five in a 5-1 season-opening win over UW-Eau Claire and in a 5-2 win over Hamline). … The Cardinals’ 44 shots on goal vs. CSC were the most in a regulation game this season and two shy of the season-high 46 shots they took against Augsburg in a 1-1 overtime tie on Dec. 2.
