UW-River Falls erupted for three goals in the first period and four more in the third as the Falcons routed SMU 8-1 a year ago. … The Cardinals have been off since Dec. 10, when Jenn Shire scored the game-winner less than two minutes into overtime as the Cardinals snapped a seven-game winless streak with a 3-2 MIAC win over St. Benedict. … UW-River Falls, meanwhile, have been off since Dec. 11, when the Falcons picked up a 5-1 win over Finlandia.
