Cardinal In The Spotlight

Jessica Ribish

Year: Junior

Pos.: Forward

Hometown: Elm Grove, WI

From Coach Mannor: “Because of her speed and determination, Jessica is always a threat to open up the game and create scoring opportunities. She’s a great student as well, proving that her work ethic is not limited to the ice.”

Game Notes
Augsburg took three of four points (1-1 tie, 3-1 win) from the Cardinals during the regular-season a year ago, but it was SMU that had the upper hand (3-1) when the two squared off in last year's MIAC playoff opener. … Jessica Ribish scored a second-period power play goal, but Augsburg got the equalizer five minutes into the third period and Auggie goalie Amanda Bockmann stopped 45 of the 46 shots she faced as the two teams battled to a 1-1 tie Friday in Minneapolis, Minn.

The Cardinals are now 9-7-3 all-time against the Auggies. … All four of the Cardinals’ losses have come against nationally ranked opponents (two vs. No. 10 UW-Superior and two vs. No. 6 St. Thomas). … Jessica Ribish’s goal was her second of the season. … Nikki Jung stopped 19 of the 20 shots she faced vs. the Auggies on Friday, lowering her goals-against-average to 3.14 and pushing her save percentage to .911. … The Cardinals’ 46 shots on goal vs. the Auggies were a season-high, while the Auggies’ 20 shots on goal were a season-low for SMU opponents. … Ribish’s goal Friday marked the third time in the last five games that the Cardinals have been held to one goal. … The Cardinals are 0-3-0 in games in which their opponent scores first, and 1-1-1 when they score first.

Auggie Notes
Tiffany Magnuson had three goals and an assist for her first collegiate points in Augsburg’s MIAC-opening series against Hamline on Nov. 18-19. In the 4-4 tie, Magnuson had a goal and assist, and in the 2-0 win, Magnuson provided both Augsburg goals, including an unassisted, power-play tally in the second period. Magnuson now leads the team in scoring. … Bockmann’s one-goal, 45-save effort against the Cardinals on Friday lowered her goals-against-average to 1.94 and improved her save percentage to .921. … Augsburg has scored first just once — and won — in its seven games.
