Last Action: The Cardinals earned a spot in tonight's MIAC playoff game with a 3-1 victory over Concordia last Saturday.
Augsburg, meanwhile, locked up the MIAC's No. 4 seed with a sweep of Hamline last weekend, beating the Pipers 6-2 and 1-0.

Regular-Season Meetings: The Cardinals went 0-1-1 against the Auggies this season, battling to a 1-1 tie at the SMU Ice Arena on Feb. 18, 2005, then falling to the Auggies 3-1 in Minneapolis, Minn., the following night.
* Feb. 18, 2005: The Auggies dominated play in the teams first meeting, outshooting the Cardinals 30-11. In fact, the Auggies were so dominant, that the Cardinals went for nearly two entire periods with just two shots on goal. One of SMUs 11 shots, however a wrist shot by Rebecca Jelenc (Sheboygan, Wis.) that accounted for the Cardinals lone shot of the second period found the back of the net as the Cardinals hung on for the 1-1 tie. Despite the lack of offensive firepower, SMU clung to that 1-0 advantage heading into the third period. Twenty-two seconds into the final period, however, the Auggies got the equalizer as Stacy Anderson netted her team-leading 16th goal of the season, banging a rebound past SMU goalie Nikki Jung
* Feb. 19, 2005: The Auggies once again held SMU to just one goal but this time scored three of its own as the Auggies cruised to the 3-1 win. Jocelyn Cookson scored a pair of goals for the Auggies the first 13 minutes into the first period and the second with 3:19 remaining in regulation to seal the win while Stacy Anderson added her team-leading 17th midway through the second to give Augsburg a 2-0 lead. Jenny Hocum cut the lead to 2-1 with her third goal of the season three minutes after Andersons goal, but that was all the offense the Cardinals would muster. Nikki Jung did her part for SMU, stopping 35 shots including 18 in the second period while Augsburg goalie Amanda Bockmann stopped 21 for the Auggies.

A Year Ago: Emily Kearns scored both goals and Nikki Jung had 23 saves as SMU opened its MIAC series vs. Concordia with a 2-1 win on Nov. 22, 2003. The Cardinals completed the sweep a day later, getting 28 saves from Jung in a 3-0 SMU victory.

Saint Mary's: SMU locked up its fifth straight MIAC playoff berth with its 3-1 win over Concordia on Saturday.
SMU and Augsburg squared off in the first round of the MIAC playoffs a year ago, with Augsburg beating the Cardinals 2-1 at the SMU Ice Arena.
The Cardinals and Auggies also faced in the play-in game of the 2003 MIAC playoffs, with SMU winning 2-1.
SMU holds a 2-1 edge over Augsburg all-time i postseason play (including a 3-2, two-overtime win in the unofficial MIAC playoff tournament in 1998-99).
SMU holds a slight 8-7-2 record all-time vs. Augsburg.
Thanks to their three-goal performance vs. the Cobbers on Saturday, SMU improved to 10-0-1 in games in which they score two or more goals.
When SMU fails to score two goals, however, the Cardinals are 0-12-2.
Friday's 2-2 tie vs. Concordia was the first time SMU did not win a game in which they scored two or more goals.
Friday's OT tie vs. Concordia was SMU's fourth overtime game of the season - the Cardinals are 1-0-3 in those games.
Jenny Hocum (Rochester, Minn.) and Aja Walters (Fairmont, Minn.), playing in their final collegiate home game, each scored for SMU Saturday.
Melissa Mondo (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) collected assists on two of SMU's three goals Saturday, pushing her team-leading point total to 15. Mondo also leads the team in goals (9), while Jenn Shire (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) is the team-leader in assists with eight.
Nikki Jung (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.), who stopped 43 of the 46 shots she faced vs. Concordia, enters post-season play with a 2.24 goals-against-average and a .929 save percentage.
The Cardinals are 8-2-3 in games in which they score the first goal, and 2-10-0 when their opponents score first.
Augsburg: Augsburg qualified for the MIAC postseason playoffs for the third straight season and fifth time in the seven seasons MIAC teams have played in a womens hockey playoff (including an unofficial MIAC playoff tournament at Augsburg in the 1998-99 season).
Tonights game is Augsburgs first home MIAC playoff game since the 1999-2000 season.
In the five seasons of the official MIAC postseason tournament (since 1999-00 season), home teams have produced a 12-3-2 record (the MIAC held tournaments at neutral sites in the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons).
Augsburg forward Lauren Chezick became the sixth player in MIAC womens hockey history to earn four all-conference first-team honors when she was named to the All-MIAC squad on Tuesday. Chezick holds Augsburgs career records for total scoring (137) and assists (82), while standing second in all-time goals (55). This season, Chezick stands third on the team in scoring (eight goals, 16 assists, 24 points).
The other four-time All-MIAC honorees: Maureen Hayes, Saint Marys (1999-2002); Sarah (Garrison) Moe, Gustavus/Augsburg (1999-2002); Katy Rollwagen, St. Benedict (1999-2002); Missy Westergren, Saint Marys (1999-2002); and Tomery Stolz, St. Thomas (2001-04).
Forward Stacy Anderson is currently ranked 15th nationally among NCAA Division III players in total scoring (36 points, 1.44 per game), 18th in goals (18 goals, 0.72 per game), 19th in assists (18, 0.72 per game) and sixth in power-play goals (six). Her 36 points are the sixth-most in a single season in school history (Chezicks 57 in 2002-03 is the record).
Anderson has scored a goal or assist in 18 of Augsburgs 25 games this season; Augsburg is 12-3-3 in games in which she has scored at least one point.
In just two seasons at Augsburg, Anderson already has 70 career points (34 goals, 36 assists), putting her fifth in school history in total scoring and at a pace to break several career records. Her 34 goals are already the fifth-most in school history (Angie Rieger holds the record with 68 goals from 1998-2001), as are her 36 career assists, and her 10 career power-play goals are fourth-most in school history (Annie Annunziato holds the record with 15 from 2003-04).
Melynda Kleewein is currently is ranked 11th nationally in assists with 21 (0.84 per game). In her career, Kleewein currently ranks fourth in school history in total scoring (77 points) and has the second-most assists in school history (66; Chezicks 82 is the record), both also the most for any defender in school history. Her 20 assists this season are the fifth-most in a single-season in school history.
Jocelyn Cookson is currently ranked 29th nationally in total scoring (28 points, 1.22 per game), 15th in goals (18, 0.78 per game) and 18th in power-play goals (five).
Cookson has scored a goal or assist in 15 of her 23 games played this season; Augsburg is 11-2-2 in games in which she has scored at least one point.
Goalie Amanda Bockmann has had an outstanding freshman season, currently standing with a 2.51 goals-against-average, .903 save percentage and 7-6-2 record. She was the lone goalie named to the MIACs All-Rookie Team. In league play, her 2.33 GAA is fifth-best and her .901 save percentage is seventh-best.
It has been a season of streaks for Augsburg. The Auggies opened the season with eight straight home games (a record number of home games to start the season) and went 4-2-2. Augsburg has had winning streaks of four, two, four and three games interspersed with losing skids of three, one, and five games. Augsburg enters tonights game on a four-game unbeaten streak, including winning its last three in a row.
