Cardinals' Nikki Jung
named to All-MIAC team
WINONA, Minn. All season long, Nikki Jung (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) has been the backbone to the Saint Mary's University women's hockey team..
And the sophomore goalie's efforts did not go unnoticed.
After compiling a 2.41 goals-against-average and a .921 save percentage, Jung was SMU's lone representative on the 24-player All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey team, it was announced Tuesday.
An All-MIAC honorable-mention selection as a freshman a year ago, Jung appeared in 16 of the Cardinals' 18 conference games, stopping 444 of the 482 shots she faced in compiling a 6-7-3 record. Jung also posted a pair of conference shutouts (4-0and 2-0 wins over Hamline on Jan. 14 and 15) and was named MIAC Player of the Week once.
Teammate Melissa Mondo (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) was an honorable-mention selection after scoring four goals and adding six assists for 10 points.
Regular-season conference champion Gustavus had six players including MIAC Player of the Year Andrea Peterson named to the squad, as did conference runner-up St. Thomas.
