Iremember the day like it was yesterday. Coach called me into his office and at that moment, I thought for sure I didnt make the team. Instead, Duncan gave me the chance to be part of something much more than a hockey team. The SMU womens hockey team has been my family for the last four years now and I have been changed forever because I was a part of it. I have learned so much from being a part of this team. Weve been through a lot together and it is hard to believe that it is almost over. My college experience has been great because I was on this team and I will never forget the wonderful memories and best friends that I have now because of it.
First of all, I want to thank my mom for giving me the opportunity to play the game. Your dedication and support has been endless and I will never forget the feeling I get when I look up and you are in the stands watching me. I know it wasnt always easy with four kids on four different hockey teams, but you always found a way to get us to practice and games. Mom, you are the best. Gary, you too have been there when I needed you and your support has been comforting. I know that you didnt even really like hockey before you became part of our family and now look at you. I love you both very much.
To the best boyfriend ever Chris, thank you for being there for me. I know you might get fined for this, but I want you to know that you have given me strength to get through a lot of tough times during the past two years. I know that I may have vented to you about a lot of things and I thank you for putting up with me. You have been nothing but supportive of me. Thank you and I love you.
To the coach that has taught me more about the game of hockey than anyone else, Duncan, thank you for giving me a chance to play for you. I am so thankful that you gave me the opportunity to be a Cardinal. I will never forget the day that you came into the locker room and told us you were going to be our coach. At first, I was scared of you, but then I found out that you are just a big teddy bear. I am going to be lost without one of your summer workout programs that I so avidly lived by these past summers. I might have to ask for one anyway. Thank you and I will never forget the chance you gave me.
To all my teammates, past and present, you girls are the reason I play hockey. You have been my family since the day I arrived at SMU. I would be lost without each and every one of you. I am going to miss the locker room talks and competing with you. I have learned so much from you girls about both hockey and life. I will never forget the great memories we have had together. Em, I couldnt have asked to be co-captain with a better player. You amaze me more and more every time I watch you play. You are an amazing hockey player and I have learned so much from you on and off the ice. Tasa, you are the best roommate I could have asked for and the fastest skater in the MIAC. Thanks for being my best bud these past four years. I will never forget all the fun we had. Di, your grace on the ice has always amazed me. I am going to miss doing the 3-whistle drill with you. I wonder if Duncs ever noticed what we were doing? Beth Z, you are the craziest person that I have ever encountered and one of the most talented. I know that I will be buying some of your artwork someday. Tennie, you have been a great leader and I can always look to you for some good advice and encouragement. Kendall, you have put a lot into this team and have never given up on us. I cant imagine where the team would be without you
definitely without water bottles on the bench! Kate and Jen, good luck next year, I know you will keep the team on their toes ... you always do!
Hockey has shaped me into the person that I am today. I will always be grateful for the experiences that the game has given me. Cardinal pride baby!!!!!
And in the words of Ashley Graf, See ya!
