The Cardinals locked up a spot in their fourth Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference post-season tournament by tying for third place in the final MIAC regular-season standings with a 11-7-0 record.. SMU, St. Olaf and Augsburg all finished tied for third, with St. Olaf winning the tiebreaker (head-to-head competition) to earn the No. 3 spot. SMU earned the fourth seed with its 2-2 finish vs. St. Olaf and Augsburg, while the Auggies ended up fifth, going 1-3 vs. SMU and St. Olaf. placing fourth in the final regular-season standings with a 13-10-2 conference mark.
SMU and Augsburg split their regular-season series, with SMU winning 5-2 in Minneapolis, Minn., on Jan. 23, and the Auggies returning the favor with a 2-1 win in Winona, on Jan. 24.

CARDINAL UPDATE

| SMU has won six of its last eight (6-1-1), with the lone loss a 3-1 decision to third-seeded St. Olaf. During that stretch, the Cardinals have outscored their opponents 34-10, with five shutout victories.
Emily Kearns (Hopkins, Minn.) leads the team in all three offensive categories goals (22), asssists (21) and points (43).
Her two goals vs. Hamline last Saturday leave her one short of becoming SMU's first-ever 100-goal career scorer. She is also one point shy of tying Missy Westergren's career point total of 154.
SMU's goaltending tandem of Nikki Jung (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) and Amanda Gage (Lino Lakes, Minn.) boast a 1.63 goals-against-average and a .932 save percentage.
In their regular-season finale vs. Hamline, SMU held the Pipers to just five shots on goal none in the third period. |

Augsburg (14-9-2) could be the hottest team in the playoffs, as the Auggies enter tonight's game 6-0-2 in their last eight games and 8-1-2 since their 2-1 win over SMU on Jan. 24.
Last seasons MIAC Player of the Year, Lauren Chezick is just the second Auggie in school history to reach the 100-point barrier in career scoring, currently standing at 111 career points (47 goals, 64 assists) in 74 career games. She is currently nine points shy of tying the Augsburg career record of 120 (68 goals, 52 assists), set by Angie Rieger from 1997-2001.
Augsburg's top line of Chezick, Annie Annunziato and Stacy Anderson has combined for 54.3 percent of Augsburgs goals (44 of 81), 46.4 percent of Augsburgs assists (52 of 112) and 49.7 percent of Augsburgs total points (96 of 193) this season.
Augsburg's goalie platoon of Katie Fedoryk (Sr., Austin, Minn.) and Kristin
Johnson (Jr., Minnetonka, Minn./Wayzata HS) has combined to give Augsburg a team goals-against-average of 2.06, 13th-best in Division III hockey and fourth-best overall in the MIAC. Fedoryk's 1.80 goals-against-average this season is the third-best GAA in school history, with the single-season record Johnson's 1.69 last season. |
