WINONA, Minn. The Saint Mary's University women's hockey team, which made its fourth straight MIAC playoff appearance, landed a pair of players on the All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference first-team, it was announced Tuesday.
Senior Emily Kearns (Hopkins, Minn.) and freshman Melissa Mondo (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) were among the 20 players selected to the All-MIAC first team. Regular-season runnerup Gustavus led the way with six first-team selections including MIAC Player of the Year Andrea Peterson while regular-season champion St. Thomas had five players on the squad.
Kearns was the team's offensive leader in all three categories, netting 18 goals and 16 assists for 34 points in helping the Cardinals to an 11-7-0 MIAC finish and a tie for third-place in the final regular-season standings. Kearns, who closed out her four years at SMU with 99 career goals and 153 career points, not only led her team, but also the entire conference in goals, while her 33 points were second to Gustavus freshman Ingrid Neve.
Mondo, meanwhile, posted 13 goals and 14 assists for 27 points during her freshman campaign. Her 13 goals ranked her fifth in the conference, while her 14 assists put her ninth and her 27 points were eighth-best in the MIAC.
Mondo was also named to the MIAC's All-Rookie team, while Kate Williams (Minnetonka, Minn.) and Nikki Jung (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) were All-MIAC honorable-mention selections.
