It is hard to believe that my four years here at Saint Marys are coming to an end. When I came here freshman year, I was offered a job to be the SMU womens hockey manager, so I took it. I thought it would be a good experience and I have to say it has been one of the most interesting jobs I have ever had.
I have had the opportunity to meet a lot of people along the way. I think I learned more about the people than the game of hockey. These girls have put in so much hard work in my four years here. Sophomore year, going to New York was the best. Whether it was during the plane ride when Sarah Gibbons got on the intercom and greeted the team, Coach Dans speedy driving, the NHL game or seeing Niagara Falls, it was a blast. Truly an experience I will not soon forget. I hope that every year the SMU womens hockey team can have an experience like that.
I have to say thank you to my parents, for encouraging me to go to college and helping me through it. To Missie, thank you for having the patience to explain the game to me over and over again. I am sure it had to get old for you, but I appreciate it. Also, thank you for keeping me focused these last four years, without you pushing me to do better in school I would have settled for okay, when I wanted the best. Thank you for putting up with me, I know I havent always been the perfect roommate, but you hung in there. It has been fun watching you play all these years. I will miss it. I still think you are crazy for being a goalie, but then, what do I know I can hardly skate!
To my rent-a-parents, Al and Alice Meemken, thank you for taking me under your wing when I needed some guidance and support. Your family has been a tremendous help to me, especially this last year. You have cared for me as if I were one of your own kids and that means so much to me. Thank you for everything!
To Jeff Vizenor, thank you for giving me the opportunity to work for the hockey team. To Duncan and Anna-Marie, thank you for showing me there is another side to hockey. I have had the unique experience of seeing the game of hockey from a player and coachs point of view. You both have been very understanding and encouraging this past year while I was student teaching. To the past and present players, thank you for showing me how fun this game can be.
This has been a long road that I did not think would end so soon. To the girls who will be here next year, good luck! Remember, if you want to be successful you must be committed to the team, play with your heart and always remember to have fun. To the senior girls Monica, Sarah, Missie, Nitara, Josie and Hicks, it has been fun sharing these past years with you and I wish you all the best of luck with your future endeavors.
I will never forget you!
