Hammel, Burns lead Cardinals to 69-60 win over Augsburg

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Stacy Hammel (Manitowoc, Wis.) notched a double-double and Amy Burns (Winona, Minn.) chipped in a season-high 15 points as the Saint Mary's University women's basketball team posted a 69-60 MIAC win over Augsburg Saturday afternoon.

Hammel posted a team-high 16 points and added 13 rebounds en route to the double-double. Jenny Rihm (Woodbury, Minn.) also scored in double figures for the Cardinals (3-2 MIAC, 4-4 overall), who snapped a two-game losing streak with the win.

The Cardinals, who led 34-28 at the half, pushed their lead to as big as 14, 50-36, with 10:04 remaining in regulation. Augsburg cut the deficit to four, 52-48 with a 10-0 run of its own, but SMU responded by hitting 11 of 14 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

Carrie Schwartz and Jaime Kingsley led Augsburg (2-4, 4-5), who each scored 10 points and pulled down eight rebounds.
