Tonight is the next-to-last day of basketball in the old and tiny Macalester Gymnasium as the building will be torn down to make room for Mac’s new Athletic & Recreation Center. Built in 1924, the gym will host its final athletic events Saturday (Jan. 27) when the Scots host St. Thomas. The Scots played in the Upper Gym from 1924 until moving into the “new” Field House in 1956. Macalester moved its basketball games back upstairs in 1994 and has been playing there the past 13 years. … Trina PaStarr registered her first two collegiate double-doubles in Macalester’s last two games, finishing with 15 points and 10 boards Saturday (Jan. 20) against Gustavus and getting 13 points and 11 rebounds Monday (Jan. 22) against St. Catherine. … After winning four out of five games, including a major upset over Concordia, the Scots are now in a five-game losing streak, averaging just 49.2 points a game during this time. … If the Scots pick up their sixth win of the season tonight, it will match their highest win total since the 2000-01 season.

The Cardinals got a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds from Jessica Weisbrod (Rollingstone, Minn.), but it was not enough, as SMU fell to league-leading Saint Benedict 65-49 Monday. … St. Catherine used a 10-minutes, 22-4 second-half run to pull away from Macalester, handing the Scots their fifth straight loss, 66-45 on Monday.

The Cardinals were a dismal 9-for-24 from the charity stripe, but still found a way to pick up MIAC win No. 1, as Jessica Weisbrod (Rollingstone, Minn.) netted a game-high 16 points and missed her first double-double of the season by one rebound in guiding SMU to a 54-46 win over Macalester at the SMU Gym on Dec. 4, 2006.

After narrowly missing double--doubles in two of her last three games, Jessica Weisbrod (Rollingstone, Minn.) who pulled down 10 rebounds and scored nine points vs. Bethel, then scored 14 points and added nine rebounds vs. St. Thomas notched double-double No. 3 on the season Monday, netting 14 points and adding 11 rebounds. It was Weisbrod's fifth double-double of her career. … With Monday's 14-point effort, Weisbrod has now scored in double figures in seven of the Cardinals’ last eight games and leads the team with an 11.4 ppg average. … Kelly Tanke (La Crosse, Wis.), who netted 10 points vs. Saint Benedict, knocked down a pair of 3-pointers vs. the Blazers, pushing her team-leading total to 26. … The Cardinals’ 19-point first half vs. Saint Benedict Monday marked the seventh time this season that they have been held to 20 points or less in a half. … The Cardinals’ loss at Saint Benedict Monday was their sixth straight road loss. SMU has not won a road game since opening the season with a 56-43 win over Willamette at the Bon Appetite Classic in Portland, Ore. … The Cardinals have been held to 56 points or less in all 11 of their losses.
