Concordia escaped with two wins vs. SMU a year ago, needing OT to post a one-point, 77-76 win on Dec. 11, then followed that up with a 65-63 triumph on Jan. 30. And in their first meeting this season, the Cardinals struggled early, managing just 18 first-half points in a 53-47 MIAC loss to the Cobbers in Moorhead, Minn. … The Cardinals jumped out to a 30-14 first-half lead, then hung on down the stretch to beat Macalester 43-37 on Saturday. … Concordia opened the game with a 5-0 run and never looked back as the Cobbers led from start to finish in beating St. Olaf 66-57 Saturday.

SMU’s Alyse Coates (West St. Paul, Minn.) posted her first career double-double in the Cardinals’ 52-41 win over Augsburg last Wednesday, as the freshman netted 11 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. … The Cardinals’ win over Macalester was their second straight and third in their last four games. … The Cardinals also evened their road record at 4-4. … Ashley Luehmann (Lewiston, Minn.), who played just 10 minutes vs. Macalester, was held without a point for the first time since Jan. 15, 2003 a span of 91 straight games with at least one point. … Luehmann currently leads the team in scoring, averaging 12.4 ppg. … The Cardinals’ 43 points vs. the Scots marked their lowest offensive output in a winning effort this season. … Macalester’s 37 points, meanwhile, are the fewest allowed by SMU this year. … Four of the Cardinals’ eight wins have come on their home floor.

Concordia, which leads the MIAC by one game over Gustavus and Saint Benedict, enters today’s game having won five straight and has beaten the Cardinals in each of their last three meetings. … In addition to their five consecutive wins, the Cobbers have won eight of their last nine games. … Melanie Hageman and Anne Keeley have been the Cobbers’ offensive 1-2 punch, averaging 15.1 ppg and 12.1 ppg, respectively. … Keeley was the Cobbers’ top gun vs. St. Olaf on Saturday, tossing in a game-high 18 points, while Hageman was close behind with 16 points and eight rebounds. … Saturday’s win was Concordia’s seventh in 10 road games.
