WINONA, Minn. — The trip to Concordia is a long one, and, unfortunately for the Saint Mary's University women's basketball team, the trip home was even longer.

Thanks to last Wednesday's 53-47 loss to the Cobbers.

The Cardinals struggled from start to finish — turning the ball over on their first three possession, missing a pair of free throws, and coming up empty on their first field goal attempt — in falling behind 7-0.

And while Danielle Dehning's (Spring Grove, Minn.) layup cut the gap to 7-2, that was as close as SMU would get in the opening 20 minutes. The Cardinals managed just six field goals in the first half, including a pair of 3-pointers, and hit just 4 of 8 free throws as Concordia held the Cardinals to just 18 first-half points.

The Cardinals used a 20-13 run to start the second half to cut the Cobbers' lead to two, 40-38 with 7:31 remaining in regulation, but that was as close as SMU would get, as Concordia scored 13 of the game's final 22 points to ice the win.

Ashley Luehmann (Lewiston, Minn.) led the way for the Cardinals (1-2 MIAC, 2-3), scoring a game-high 15 points, while teammate Jessica Weisbrod (Rollingstone, Minn.) was held to nine, snapping her streak of scoring in double-figures at four.
