How They Fared: Head-to-Head
Dec. 11, 2004: At Winona, Minn. — The Cardinals shot just 24 percent from the field and were a mearger 3 of 77 (22 percent) from beyond the three-point line as Carleton snapped SMU’s season-opening five-game winning streak with the 57-42 win. Ashley Luehmann, SMU scored a team-high 17 points for the Cardinals, while Jamie Rattunde added 16 points, nine rebounds and five steals. Kristi Colbenson led a trio of Knights in double figures with 16 points. Kari Christianson chipped in 10 points and Beth Freeman recorded 10 points and nine rebounds.
Feb. 16, 2005: At Northfield, Minn. — Carleton earned a share of its third straight MIAC regular-season crown with the 62-48 win. SMU struggled from the field, shooting just 30 percent (18-for-60) — including a dismal 2-for-17 from the 3-point line. Carleton, on the other hand, was unstoppable, especially in the first half, when the Knights made 16 of 25 field-goal attempts (64 percent) and were 5-for-6 from beyond the arc. Jamie Rattunde and Angie Arrington each scored 12 points in the losing effort for SMU, while Megan Vig netted a game-high 17 points and added 11 rebounds for the Knights.

The Knights, the three-time defending MAIC regular-season champion and four-time defending MIAC playoff champions, look to make it five consecutive conference post-season titles when it opens the MIAC Playoffs by hosting Saint Mary’s. … Only three other women’s basketball programs – Concordia (1986-88), St. Thomas (1996-98 and 2000-2002) and St. Benedict (2002-04) – have won three straight MIAC regular-season titles. The outright title is the MIAC’s first since St. Thomas clinched the 2000-01 crown outright. … Carleton’s class of 2005 – one of the most successful groups of Knight female student-athletes in school history – won their 75th MIAC contest last Wednesday, matching the class of 2004 for most conference wins in a career.
