WINONA Minn. They were the one-two punch that helped the Saint Mary's University women's basketball team earn a fifth straight trip to the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference playoffs not to mention to its first-ever MIAC playoff win.
And Wednesday afternoon, Jamie Rattunde (Rollingstone, Minn.) and Ashley Luehmann (Lewiston, Minn.) were rewarded for their efforts, as the Cardinals' dynamic duo were named to the All-MIAC team.
SMU freshman Jessica Weisbrod (Rollingstone, Minn.) also earned postseason honors, being named to the MIAC All-First Year Team, closing out her first collegiate season averaging 6.4 ppg and 4.9 rpg.
It was a fitting end to an illustrious career for Rattunde, who closed out the regular season among the MIACs leaders in virtually every statistical category. The senior guard who earned her third straight All-MIAC honor was fifth in scoring (16.4 ppg), fifth in rebounding (7.9 rpg), fourth in field goal % (110-for-205, .537), assists (90, 4.5 apg), and fifth in free throw % (105-for-130, .808).
Rattunde, who posted six double-doubles in the Cardinals' 20 conference games, completed a rare triple-double in postseason awards as she was also selected to the MIAC All-Defensive team. It was her fourth straight All-Defensive Team honor, and the third straight time she has been named to both the All-MIAC and All-Defensive Teams.
Rattunde ended her Cardinal career with 1,483 points (third all-time), while also finishing as SMU's career leader in free throws made (423) and free throws attempted (596), while ranking second in assists (385) and steals (350).
Luehmann, meanwhile, finished No. 6 in the conference in scoring, averaging a career-best 16.0 ppg. The junior guard also led the league in 3-pointers made (52) and helped guide SMU to the No. 1 spot in 3-pointers made as a team (131). A two-time All-MIAC selection, Luehmann is SMU's career leader in 3-pointers (150), as well as 3-pointers in a season (60).
