WINONA, Minn. The Saint Mary's University women's basketball team, which qualified for the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference postseason tournament for the fourth consecutive season, landed a pair of players on the All-MIAC first team, it was announced Friday.
Junior Jamie Rattunde (Rollingstone, Minn.) and sophomore Ashley Luehmann (Lewiston, Minn.) were among the 16 players named to the All-MIAC's first team. Conference co-champion Carleton which won the MIAC's postseason tournament and earned the conference's automatic NCAA Division III national tournament berth had three players named to the team, while SMU and St. Benedict each had two. Concordia's Mandy Pearson was named MIAC Player of the Year.
Rattunde, a two-time All-MIAC selection, led the Cardinals in scoring, averaging 18.0 ppg and 9.3 rpg in 22 conference games guiding SMU to a 16-6 conference mark its most wins since the 1985-86 season. Rattunde's 18 ppg average ranked her No. 2 behind Macalester's Afton Hanson (19.2 ppg), while her 9.3 rpg were third in the conference. Rattunde, who recorded nine double-doubles and one triple-double in the Cardinals' 22 MIAC games, also led the conference in steals with a record 94 breaking the old mark of 91 she set a year ago and was second in assists with 103.
Along with her second All-MIAC selection, Rattunde was also named to the MIAC All-Defensive team for the third straight season.
Luehmann, meanwhile, earned her first MIAC postseason honor, after recording career highs of 15.5 ppg and 5.2 rpg in SMU's 22 conference games. Luehmann finished tied for seventh in the MIAC in scoring and was third in the league in 3-pointers (47).
