Sluggish second half too much to overcome as SMU falls to Loras
DUBUQUE, Iowa The Saint Mary's University women's basketball team's one-two punch of Jaimie Lee (Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Jamie Rattunde (Rollingstone, Minn.) accounted for 35 points Thursday evening against Loras.
Unfortunately, the rest of the Cardinals could only muster 18 points and the Duhawks countered with a rather lethal knockout punch of their own in the form of Alicia Davis, as Loras broke open a five-point game with 44 second-half points en route to a 74-53 nonconference win over SMU.
Davis scored a game-high 23 points connecting on 11 of 14 attempts from the field while Cortney Kettmann (12 points) and Amy Jones (10 points) also scored in double figures as the Duhawks won for the fifth straight time.
Lee tossed in a season-high 21 points to lead the Cardinals, who lost for the third straight time. Rattunde also hit in double figures for SMU (2-6 overall), scoring 14 points.
Loras broke the game open over the final 20 minutes, shooting 60 percent from the field (15-for-25) and nailing 13 of 15 free throw attempts. SMU, meanwhile, managed just 28 second-half points (11-for-27, 40 percent) and went to the line just once, missing that attempt.
