HOW THEY GOT HERE
The Knights finisehd in a three-way tie for first atop the MIAC standings, thanks in part ot a season-ending two-game losing streak. Carleton, which opened the season winning 23 straight, earned the top seed via a coin flip and will face the lowest remaining seed in the semifinals. The Knights captured their second consecutive MIAC playoff title in 2002, beating St. Benedict in the championship game.
KNIGHTS UPDATE
Karissa Kramer's (Sr./Clearwater, Minn./Monticello) 19 points in Saturday's loss moved her into Carleton's all-time top 10 scoring list at 849 points, knocking Jessia Thorton '95 from the top 10. It marked Kramer's 100th career start on Saturday and the 41st time she's scored in double figures. Her 570 career rebounds ranks her ninth all-time at Carleton… Kramer has finally accumulated enough games to rank among the MIAC leaders. Her 10.7 points per game places her 18th and her 55.3 field goal percentage slots her fifth in the MIAC rankings… Cara Jones (Sr./Minneapolis/Minnehaha Academy)is one assist away from reaching 200 for her career. Only five other players have reached the mark in Carleton history… Angie Grabowski (Sr./Plymouth, Minn./Maple Grove) became the 12th player in Carleton history to reach 800 points on Wednesday, and enters the MIAC Playoffs at 832. She ranks 12th on Carleton's career scoring list, but needs only seven more points to move into 11th behind Kramer… Linnea Engel (Jr.ranks 27th in the MIAC in scoring (9.0 ppg), ninth in field goal accuracy (51.1%), 14th in free throw percentage (71.4%)and fifth in steals (2.3 spg)… Beth Freeman set a new career high with five assists against Concordia. Her 12 points snapped a 13-game streak of not scoring in double figures… Megan Vig and Beth Freeman are Carleton's top rebounders in MIAC play, hauling in 4.8 collections per game. Although the Knights have no one ranked among the top 20 rebounders, they're the second-best rebounding team in the conference behind St. Thomas… After scoring in double figures only once in Carleton's first 14 games, Karen Fricke has notched five double-figure scoring games in the Knights' last 11 games. She scored a season-high 17 points in Wednesday's loss at St. Benedict… Vig's 16 points in last Saturday's game against St. Thomas snapped a four-game streak without scoring in double figures for the first-year sensation. She averaged only 4.8 ppg during that stretch. In the 10 games against MIAC Playoff teams, Vig is scoring 12.1 points per game. …The Knights were one of only four unbeaten teams in Division III before Wednesday's game. Now only three teams remain: Hope College (Mich.), Washington University (Mo.) and Hardin-Simmons University (Texas). Carleton's 23-game winning streak is a school record. Both Carleton and Washington University fell from the ranks of the unbeaten this past week. … The Knights are ranked fifth in last week's D3Hoops.com top 25 and the ESPN/USA Today/WBCA coaches' poll for the fourth straight week. Washington University remained first in the D3Hoops.com poll for the 10th straight week, followed by Hope, Hardin-Simmons, the U.W.-Eau Claire and Carleton. St. Benedict, after its win over Gustavus, moved up two spots to sixth while the Gusties dropped four slots to 11th in the D3hoops.com poll. Carleton has now been ranked a school-record 18 consecutive weeks. In last week's west region poll Carleton is the top-ranked team. … Carleton four seniors - Karissa Kramer, Cara Jones, Angie Grabowski and Karen Fricke - own an 84-23 mark in their four seasons at Carleton, including a 69-18 mark in MIAC play. They are, by far, the most successful class in Carleton history. The quartet of players have combined to play in 306 games and start 272 times. Megan Vig (Fy./Northfield, Minn.) connected on all four of her 3-point attempts in last Saturday's win over St. Thomas, tying the Carleton record for best perfect shooting game from three-point range. Vig leads the team with a 42.6 3-point shooting percentage and 28 long-range shots. She ranks fourth in the MIAC in 3-point accuracy. Vig is Carleton's top scorer in MIAC play, ranking 16th at 10.7 points per game… Eight different players have paced Carleton in scoring at least once this season. Megan Vig is the team leader, as she's led the team in scoring seven times. Angie Grabowski has done it six times and Lineea Engel five and Karissa Kramer four. … Carleton's two consecutive losses last week marked the first time the Knights have lost two in a row since the end of the 1999-2000 season, the current seniors' first year. That is a span of 84 games… Carleton's 20 first-half points was a season low for a half. Its previous season low was 27 against Ausgburg on Dec. 7. In 50 halves of basketball this season, Carleton has scored 30 points or more 46 times… Carleton trailed at the half in Saturday's loss, only the third time that's happened this season. They rallied to win the other two times, beating St. Benedict 76-75 on Jan. 18 and taking Chapman 80-77 in the season opener on Nov. 27… Carleton shot 52.0 percent from the floor in Saturday's loss, marking the 10th time the Knights have made at least half of their shots this season. They won the other nine times… Carleton held Gustavus to under 70 points, marking the 22nd time a Knight opponent has failed to crack 70 points… For the first time this season, Carleton was outrebounded and committed more turnovers than the opposition in Wednesday's loss. It marked only the fourth time this season the Knights have been outrebounded and only the fifth time the Knights have turned the ball over more time than their opponents… Carleton has shot 48.6 percent from three-point range over its last three games, connecting on 17-for-35 from long range… Carleton's eight 3-pointers against St. Benedict was a conference team season high… The Knights posted their 13th 40+ scoring half in Saturday's loss to Gustavus, scoring 42 points in the second half. Their season-high for a first-half score is 48 against Augsburg on Jan. 25, while their 52 points against Concordia-Moorhead on Dec. 14 is their second-half high… Carleton's 20 MIAC wins set a new school record, breaking the previous record of 18 set by the 2001-02 and 2000-01 teams… St. Thomas shot 56.9 percent from the field on Saturday, marking only the second time this season that a Carleton opponent has shot 50 percent or better… Carleton had a season-high five players score in double figures in its Feb. 8 over Concordia-Moorhead. The previous high was four, also against Concordia back on Dec. 14… The Knights have held the opposition to under 40 percent shooting in 16 of its 25 games… MIAC opponents are shooting only 37.4 percent from the floor and scoring only 55.3 points per game… The Knights rank second in the MIAC in scoring offense (72.8 ppg), scoring defense (55.3 ppg allowed), scoring margin (+17.5), free throw percentage (69.6%), field goal percentage (46.8%), field goal percentage defense (37.5%), assists (16.8 apg), 3-point field goal percentage (34.5%),3-point field goal percentage defense (28.3%) and rebounding margin (+6.5)… Carleton is 28th in the nation in scoring offense (74.1 ppg), 11th in scoring margin (+19.2), seventh in field goal percentage (47.0%) and 26th in 3-point field goal percentage (35.8%).
