The Cardinals were no match for hte nationally rankied Tommies in the teams' regular-season meeting a year ago, as UST swept past SMU, 3-0. … The Cardinals posted their second straight MIAC victory Friday, as Molli Dant (Forest City, Iowa) banged out a match-high 21 kills — including 15 in the fourth and fifth games combined — as SMU rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat Hamline 3-2 at the SMU Gym. … St. Thomas, meanwhile, dropped its second straight for the first time this season, falling to Bethel 3-2

Today’s match vs. the sixth-ranked Tommies marks the third match in a span of a week that SMU has faced a nationally ranked team (No. 23 Saint Benedict and No. 4 Concordia were the other two). SMU will face yet another ranked team on Wednesday, when the Cardinals travel to No. 25 Carleton. … Molli Dant’s (Forest City, Iowa) 21 kills were a season-high. … As a team, the Cardinals collected 69 kills vs. Hamline, also a season high. … SMU’s win over Hamline marked the third time the Cardinals have won a five-game match. … Breanna Benham (Deer River, Minn.) dished out a season- and career-high 58 assists vs. the Pipers. It was the third time this season the SMU freshman has eclipsed the 50-assist mark in a match. … Theresa Perrini (Fairway, Kan.) boasts a team-leading 327 digs and is one of three SMU players with more than 100 digs. The SMU sophomore also ranks third in the MIAC in digs, averaging 6.46 digs/game. … SMU’s sweep of St. Catherine last Wednesday was its first 3-0 win of the season. … With their two wins on Wednesday and Friday, the Cardinals improved to 4-3 on their home floor. St. Thomas finished 30-7 in 2005 and reached the NCAA playoffs for the first time since 1992. That included a 15-0 mark vs. MIAC teams and a sweep of the regular-season and postseason conference titles. … The Tommies beat No. 6-ranked UW-Eau Claire in three games in the finals of the Augsburg tournament to start the season 8-0 and move as high as No. 4 in the AVCA poll — the program's best ranking since 1992. …Wednesday’s loss at Carleton snapped the Tommies’ 12-game MIAC road winning streak. … The Tommies are 19-2 vs. conference foes since 2005. … Senior Rachelle Dosch of Anoka, a four-year starter and All-America candidate, played her 400th career game Wednesday night. Dosch surpassed 1,500 career digs last weekend and went into Friday's match at Bethel with 1,544 digs and 1,427 kills in 400 career games. Dosch is on pace to break the school record of 1,684 digs set by All-American Katie Reynolds.
