It’s hard to say “goodbye” to a sport and a school that has shaped so much of who I have become. Throughout the 13 years I have played volleyball, it has grown from a hobby into a way of life for me. It has been a teacher of many important skills such as teamwork and dedication. It has been therapy and an escape from the everyday rush and it definitely has given me a family away from my own and more memories than I can count.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this wonderful experience.
Professors: Thank you for supporting me as both a student and an athlete. You have always been very understanding when a tournament or a game has called me from class.
Athletic Department: Your time commitment continues to amaze me. Donny, you put so many hours into all the SMU athletics, we appreciate every one of them.
Athletic Training Staff: Thank you for all the time you put in EVERYDAY of the week. I don’t know what I would have done without the treatment and taping before every practice and game over the past four years.
Friends: Thanks for being such great fans! It is always so great to see a smiling face up in the stands and know that they are cheering for you. Emily, our super fan, you have been amazing keeping up with your three vb roomies! Thanks allowing us to talk for hours about everything volleyball.
Family: Alissa, Steve, and Jenna thanks for understanding how much this sport means to me. You have pushed and motivated me to give everything I have to offer. My wonderfully large extended family ? thanks for all the support and for attending my games when I know how busy your schedules are. Mom and Dad, how can I say thank you to the two people I owe everything to? You dedicate your lives to teaching and loving your family and I will always be so grateful for all that you do. Everyday I thank God for blessing me with such an amazing family. I LOVE YOU!
Coaches: Roof, Jackie, and Katie, thank you for the many hours you spent on the court with us. Jamie thanks for all your time and advice. Corey, your encouragement that continued even after you left has meant more than you can know. Rick and Kristin, thank you for making us become better players everyday. Coach thank you for all you offer to our program. I have never known anyone who knows and respects the game as you do. Thank you for supporting us on and off the court. Oh, and thanks for adding three inches onto my height in the program every year! Maybe I really should be a middle!
Past Players: Thank you for shaping the program and all its traditions. What would SMU volleyball be without the squirt gun game or dead bug? We have missed you.
Freshmen: You all have so much talent. Continue to work hard and you will all see the reward. Good luck at SMU.
Sophomores and Junior: Kelsi it was been so fun getting to share not only our position, but also our hot Twins player. Keep working on that killer serve. T, our pregame dance parties have always been one of the best parts of my day. Continue to be a leader and don’t forget how important it is to always keep the team smiling. Carolyn, when I describe hard work and dedication all I have to do is say your name. Thank you for your constant effort and for continually motivating me. Wendy, your beautiful voice and loud laugh has always kept the team entertained. Could you please tell me what’s going on with your shirt? Poke, poke … .
Seniors: It’s hard to believe we are already at OUR senior night. It doesn’t feel like four years has already gone by since we were strangers. I am honored to be sharing this night with three great friends. Moldi, you have set an amazing example for every volleyball player. Your athleticism and hard work motivate so many of us. Ashley, sometimes I wonder how many hours we have spent peppering and how many hours we have spent running after our ball. People should have known not to let two liberos be pepper partners. Jess, if it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t be at SMU. Thanks for making life here all it has. I am so proud of all you have accomplished on and off the court.
Again, thank you to everyone here tonight and everyone who has made SMU volleyball all it is. GO CARDINALS!!!
