WINONA, Minn. — The 2006 season is nearly here, but for Mike Lester and the Saint Mary's University volleyball team, there's still one piece of 2005 business yet to be settled.
It was announced Thursday that the Cardinals were one of five Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams — and one of 44 NCAA Division III teams — to earn the Game Plan™/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2005-2006 season.
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors college and high school teams that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point-average on a 4.0 scale.
Along with Saint Mary's, Bethel, Carleton, Macalester and St. Thomas were the other MIAC schools to earn the AVCA academic honor.
