| Chillin’ here on the locker room couch, I look back and try to remember the number of times I have entered this place, but I don’t think I can count that high. I have spent a tremendous amount of time and effort in the gym, RAC, and weight room as I continuously worked to improve for the next season. As I look back at the past four years of my college career, I realize that the Saint Mary’s volleyball program has had a tremendous impact on my life. Honestly, I don’t know where I would be without it. I can’t think of a better way to spend my time than coming to the gym, hanging out with my friends, and playing the game I love. Throughout the years, the friendships I’ve gained on the court are ones I’ll never forget. There are many people who have had a great impact on my SMU volleyball career. Here are a few of those who deserve many thanks: Super fans: k8teeomie, luckycharm754, pepprcheers, cutcliffe, swlifegaurd, icerat00, hellfishrugger and any others, I may have forgotten. Thanks for all of your encouragement, support, long chats, signs, and memories! To my family: I want to thank my parents for all of their encouragement and support throughout the years. They have traveled many miles to support me and our team. I want to thank my sister, Maisa, for always encouraging me and pushing me to strive to be a better player and achieve what I want in life. To my teammates: Mol, we’ve had many unforgettable memories, from random runs to road trips. TAK and Kates, you’re the best roomies, and whenever I need a laugh, I always know where to go! Ash and Tess, my co-captains, thanks for being great leaders on and off the court. Maybe one of these times I’ll let you girls call the coin toss! Moldy, Lis and Rivs, hopefully next year you’ll be able to find your place on the court. We all tend to get a little lost out there! To the rest of you girls, all of you have been a great group to play with! Our team wouldn’t be the same with out each and every one of you; we all play a special role in our team! To my coaches, past and present: My high school volleyball coach, Jolene Nitchey-Keppen, you have made a tremendous impact on my volleyball career. The memories we’ve shared will never be forgotten. Corey and Roof, there was never a dull moment with you two around. Jamie and Jackie, thanks for the continuous support and encouragement. Coach Lester, thanks for all the time, effort, and commitment put into the SMU volleyball program. I’ve learned many things these past four years, which has me a better player and person. I cannot believe how fast my time here at SMU has flown by. It seems like only yesterday I walked into this gym as a scared, nervous, little, freshman, not knowing what would come of these next four years. Who would have guessed where the road would have led us. We will leave this gym together, not only as former teammates, but as life-long friends. And on that note … Peace I’m Outie! ~Kirst |
