WINONA, Minn. Earning Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors is becoming old hat to Saint Mary's University's Ashley Dingels (Gibbon, Minn.) this season.
For the second time in five weeks, the Cardinals' senior outside hitter has earned the MIAC's weekly honor (sharing it with Concordia's Jacki Barton), as Dingels helped guide SMU to four wins in its five matches last week including an impressive 3-1 mark at the IIAC-MIAC Border Battle last weekend.
Dingels, who finished in double figures in kills in each of the Cardinals five matches, opened the week with an impressive 13-kill effort in their 3-0 MIAC win over St. Olaf last Wednesday. Dingels hit .520 against the Oles, while also tallying six blocks as SMU improved to 4-2 in conference play.
At the Border Battle in which SMU opened with a 3-2 loss to eighth-ranked Central, then beat Wartburg, Loras and Simpson Dingels collected 66 kills, tallied a .403 attack percentage, and chipped in six aces, 31 digs and 18 blocks.
For the season, Dingels who has now had 10 or more kills in six straight matches and 14 of the last 15 leads the team in kills (295), attack percentage (.352), and blocks (59).
