WINONA, Minn. Ashley Dingels (Gibbon, Minn.) and Tessa Stranik (Eastonville, Wash.), two of the key ingredients to the Saint Mary's University volleyball team's drive to a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference playoff berth, were named to the All-MIAC First-Team, it was announced Wednesday.
Dingels, who missed most of last season with a knee injury, earned her second All-MIAC honor, leading the conference in kills (4.51 kpg) and attack percentage (.353). The 5-10 middle hitter collected 10 or more kills in 10 of the Cardinals' MIAC 11 matches, including their last seven in a row. She boasted a season-high 27 kills in SMU's 3-1 win over Augsburg on Oct. 16, while hitting a season-best .520 in their 3-0 triumph over St. Olaf on Oct. 6.
Stranik, a four-year letterwinner and two-year starting setter, led the league in assists, averaging 12.15 assists-per-game. The school's single-season assist leader, Stranik collected 486 assists in SMU's 11 conference matches, including a season-best 61 in matches against St. Benedict and Macalester.
The Cardinals closed out the regular season with a 7-4 conference mark, earning the No. 6 seed in the MIAC's post-season tournament and a road game at St. Benedict on Tuesday a match in which SMU lost to the Blazers 3-1 (30-26, 30-20, 25-30, 30-20).
