Cardinals have tables turned as they go 0-2 in Day 2 of Trinity Tournament

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Talk about your night and day performances.

Less than 24 hours after the Saint Mary's University volleyball team put together a run of victories in six straight games en route to wins over A&M Kingsville and New York University in Day 1 of the Trinity Tournament Friday evening, the Cardinals came up empty in Saturday's second day, losing in three straight to Mount St. Joseph (30-23, 30-28, 30-24) and host Trinity (30-28, 30-25, 33-31).

Rhonda Thibault (Faribault, Minn.) and Tracy Koertgen (Crystal Lake, Ill.) led the way for the Cardinals against Mount St. Joseph, collecting 15 and 13 kills, respectively. Thibault also hit a team-leading .480, while Melissa Cowan (Algonquin, Ill.) finished with 42 assists and 14 digs and Leslie Nicholls (Hastings, Minn.) added 14 digs.

Against Trinity, Thibault was again at the top of her game, drilling 14 kills. For the tournament's four games, Thibault finished with 62 kills (4.43/game) and a .472 attack percentage. The senior outside hitter also had five service aces and 12 blocks. Nicholls chipped in 13 kills and Ashley Dingels (Gibbon, Minn.) added 13 against Trinity, while Nicholls also picked up a team-high 17 digs, with Cowan serving up 47 assists and 14 digs.
