Cardinals' Weinmann settles for 10th-place finish in weight throw

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Saint Mary's University coach Kirk Nauman summed it up perfectly: "You do your best, and hope your best is good enough."

Amanda Weinmann (Rochester, Minn.) entered Saturday's NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships with her sights on a second All-American honor.

The Cardinals senior wasn't able to transform that dream into reality, however, as Weinmann's 15.26-meter toss in the weight throw was only good enough for 10th overall.

"I'm sure there's no one as disappointed as Amanda right now, but she'll regroup and be ready to go again (Saturday)," said Nauman, noting that Weinmann will be back on the nation's biggest stage Saturday, taking part in the shot put with teammate Ashley Luehmann (Lewiston, Minn.). "Amanda did her best and that's all you can ever ask of a person. On this day, her best just wasn't good enough.

"Making it back to the national championships, and (Weinmann) certainly has nothing to hang her head about — to finish 10th in the nation is quite an accomplishment."
