Cardinals' Weinmann, Luehmann get the call, earn berths in NCAA Outdoor National Championships
Amanda Weinmann (Rochester, Minn.) and Ashley Luehmann (Lewiston, Minn.) provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships earlier this season, then patiently waited nearly a month to see if Weinmann's throw of 13.72 meters in the shot put and Luehmann's toss of 13.40 meters in the shot and 43.78 meters in the javelin would be good enough to earn her a spot on the nation's biggest stage. It was, as Weinmann and Luehmann both found out Sunday that they will be making the trip to Oshkosh, Wis.., for the outdoor national championships.. Luehmann earned a spot in this weekend's NCAA Outdoor National Championships in both the shot put and the javeling, while Weinmann will be looking for her second straight All-American honor in the shot put. For Luehmann, this weekend's championships will be a second straight outdoor double-double. An outdoor national qualifier in both the shot and the javelin a year ago, the Cardinal senior will doing double-duty again this year, boasting the eighth-best javelin toss (43.78 meters), along with the 12th-best shot put throw (13.40 meters). Weinmann, meanwhile, will be looking to improve on her eighth-place, All-American performance in the shot at the indoor national championships when she steps into the shot put ring Saturday. The reigning MIAC shot put champion enters NCAA competition with the sixth-best throw of the season, a toss of 13.72 meters. |
