WINONA, Minn. — Last weekend, Amanda Weinmann (Rochester, Minn.) and Ashley Luehmann (Lewiston, Minn.) proved they were the best in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference when it came to the weight throw and the shot put events.

Monday, the Saint Mary's University duo learned they would get a chance to prove they were not only the best in the MIAC, but also in all of NCAA Division III.

Weinmann's provisional-qualifying marks in both the shot put (13.46 meters) and weight throw (16.71 meters) were good enough to get the SMU senior an invitation to the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships in both events, while Luehmann's toss of 13.31 meters in the shot put earned her an NCAA invite.

Weinmann launched her season-best and NCAA-qualifying toss in the weight throw last weekend at the MIAC Indoor Championships, where she shattered her own school record en route to claiming the conference title. Her 16.71 performance ranks the SMU senior fifth among the NCAA qualifiers.

Weinmann will also compete on the NCAA's biggest stage in the shot put, after posting the eighth-best toss in the nation in the shot put (13.46 meters) at the UW-Superior Blizzard Open earlier this season

Luehmann, who joined SMU's conference-champion parade last weekend when she outdueled Weinmann to win the shot put competition, punched her NCAA ticket with a 13.31-meter toss — ranking her 10th among the NCAA qualifiers — at the Pre-MIAC Meet in Northfield, Minn., two weeks ago.
