Cardinals' Bartusek gets membership into NCAAs with 400 victory MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. On Friday evening at the UW-Stout Invitational, the Cardinals' provisional qualifying trio of Megan Mason (Rochester, Minn.) Autumn Valk (Appleton, Wis.) and Beth Cleveland (Wausau, Wis.) welcomed a new member, as Amanda Weinmann (Rochester, Minn.) provisionally qualified for the indoor national championships and broke the school's shot put record in the process by winning the shot with a toss of 12.94 meters. Saturday afternoon at the University of Minnesota Parent's Day Open, the Cardinals' NCAA membership drive added one more, as Emily Bartusek (Albert Lea, Minn.) provisionally qualified for the national indoor championships in the 400, shattering the 16-hour old record set by Maria Roche (Eden Prairie, Minn.) and winning the event with a time of 58.39. "Emily ran the perfect race," said SMU assistant coach Ward Berndt. "To run that well in a meet as big as this one was, is outstanding." Ellen Koranda (Blue Earth, Minn.) also competed for the Cardinals, clocking a time of 5:11.43 in the mile. |
