WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University track and field record books got a bit of a breather Saturday afternoon — the Cardinals "only" broke two school records during the Cardinal Invitational at the Gostomski Fieldhouse.

But the facility records books, now that's another story, as the Cardinals helped break 10 Gostomski Fieldhouse indoor records.

"It was a good meet," said SMU coach Kirk Nauman, noting that among the 10 facility records was the 20.41 meter weight throw toss of UW-La Crosse's Kevin Becker, whose throw is currently the best in all of NCAA Division III. "We had a number of very strong performances. It's always nice to compete at home, in front of your home fans — and I thought we did a real nice job."

Emily Bartusek (Albert Lea, Minn.) and Dan Gerber (Belvidere, Ill.) led the Cardinals' charge, each etching their name into the school record books in the 400. Bartusek won the women's 400, posting a time of 59.86, while Gerber placed fourth in a record-setting time of 52.22.

Bartusek was also first in the 200 (26.66), while Maria Roche (New Prague, Minn. / 800, 2:20.07), Kate Boisjolie (Austin, Minn. / 3,000, 10:55.40), Autumn Valk (Appleton, Wis. / 55 hurdles, 8.61), Megan Mason (Rochester, Minn. / high jump, 1.54 meters) and Amanda Weinmann (Rochester, Minn. / shot put, 12.42 meters) all chipped in second-place performances.

On the men's side, Jerod Baertsch (Winona, Minn.) and Joe Holman (Suamico, Wis.) turned in second-place efforts in the 600 (1:30.75) and the 55 hurdles (9.03), respectively, while Chris Fisette (Elmhurst, Ill.) was third in both the long jump (6.16 meters) and the triple jump (12.50 meters).
