SMU's Mason named MIAC Field Athlete of Week WINONA, Minn. Megan Mason (Rochester, Minn.) did something last Saturday that the Saint Mary's University senior track standout had never done before she provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships. Tuesday, Mason earned another first her first-ever Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week honor. Mason earned the conference's weekly honor thanks to a stellar effort at the UW-Stevens Point Eastbay Invitational, in which she not only provisionally qualified for the indoor national championships in the high jump, but also shattered the school's pole vault record. Mason punched her NCAA ticket with a leap of 1.67 meters in the high jump, while breaking the school record in the pole vault with a leap of 3.10 meters. Mason is the second SMU athlete to earn the conference's athlete of the week honor, joining teammate Beth Cleveland (Wausau, Wis.), who earned the honor on Jan. 31, 2006. |
