Cardinals' Weinmann, Valk, Mason get their tickets punched for Division III national championships
For seniors Megan Mason (Rochester, Minn.) and Autumn Valk (Appleton, Wis.), and jjunior Amanda Weinmann (Rochester, Minn.), that "provisional" tag was replaced with "national qualifier," as the Saint Mary's University trio got word Sunday that their provisional marks were good enough to earn the three official invitations to the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships March 10-11 at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn. Mason will be among the field in the high jump, while Weinmann qualified in the shot put, and Valk will be competing in the 55 hurdles. "This is awesome," said SMU coach Kirk Nauman, whose women's team is coming off a fourth-place finish at last weekend's MIAC Indoor Championships. "To get three athletes into nationals is outstanding we've never had three people qualify at once, which says a lot about the talent we have on this team. "This has been an amazing indoor season," continued Nauman, whose team had provisionally qualified for the NCAA indoors in a school-record eight events and boasts the most national qualifiers of all the MIAC schools.. "And moving three people on (to the national championships) is the frosting on the cake." |
