This time around, Dingels, Friendt share MIAC spotlight
WINONA, Minn. First, it was Saint Mary's University's Ashley Dingels (Gibbon, Minn.) who landed back-to-back Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week honors.
Then, Rob Friendt (Ogden, Utah) took over, earning the conference's weekly honor last week.
This week, the MIAC spotlight didn't shine on solely on Friendt or Dingels it shined on both of them.
Fresh off record-setting performances at the UW-Stevens Point Easbay Invitational, the Cardinals dynamic duo once again earned the conference's top honor.
Friendt not only shattered the school's heptathlon record by nearly 700 points finishing with 4,802 but he outdistanced his nearest competitor by more than 300 points. In addition, the SMU junior also set school marks in the 55 (8.06), the long jump (22-11) and the high jump (6-2 3/4).
Earning her third weekly conference honor in four weeks, Dingels broke her own mark in the pentathlon at the Eastbay Invitational, compiling 3,306 points in winning the event. The Cardinal senior also provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III National Indoor Championships in the high jump with a leap of 5-5 (1.65m).
