Folgers sets SMU record, earns NCAA provisional time in 100 hurdles

ST. PAUL, Minn. — On the track, Jenny Folgers (McHenry, Ill.) was the second-fastest runner in the 100-meter hurdle field — and the fastest among any of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams competing.

She posted a school-record time of 14.89, breaking her old mark of a year ago, and finished just behind Dawn Solberg, who was running unattached at Thursday's St. Thomas Tommie Twilight.

Her time was so good, in fact, that the Saint Mary's University junior provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championships.

Now all she can do is wait and see if the school's best 100 hurdle time is good enough.

"That's an excellent time," said SMU coach Kirk Nauman. "Right now it ranks her about 15th in the nation, and (the national championships) take the top 18, so she's got a pretty good shot.

"We'll just have to wait and see."
