Meschke, Leeder women's 1st All-MIAC selections
Wednesday afternoon, the Cardinals accomplished another first. And then a second. Meschke and Ann Leeder (Greenfield, Wis.) were both named to the All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference First Team, marking the first time in school history the Cardinals have had an all-conference performer. Make that, two all-conference performers. Meschke, whose 16 wins were fourth-best among all conference singles players, put together winning streaks of six and eight matches, with a 6-1, 6-1 loss to Gustavus' Jenni White and a 6-1, 6-4 setback to St. Thomas' Dana Vilar the only blemishes on her singles record. Leeder, meanwhile, finished with a 12-6 overall singles record, including a 6-4 showing in MIAC play with all but two matches coming at No. 2 singles. Leeder dropped two of her first three MIAC singles matches and three of her first five, but rebounded by closing out the season with wins in four of her final five. |
