Cardinals make it look easy in rolling to 9-0 nonconference victory

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — The Saint Mary's University men's tennis team made it look easy Saturday afternoon, as the Cardinals swept all nine matches — eight in straight sets — en route to a 9-0 nonconference win over Milwaukee School of Engineering.

Tyler Stevenson (Neenah, Wis.) extended his unbeaten streak to six straight, easily disposing of Ryan Balke 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Walter Mannino (Chicago, Ill.) improved to 5-1 on the year — picking up his fifth straight win with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at No. 2 singles — while Adam Solseth (Shakopee, Minn.), Dan Fahey (Brookfield, Ill.) and Dustin Kresen (Riverside, Ill.) were also straight-set winners.

Only Tony Miller (Rochester, Minn.) was taken to a third set, as the SMU junior rebounded from a first-set loss to beat Yiannis Glavas 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.

The Cardinals, who lost just 21 games in sweeping the singles, were even more impressive in doubles, where SMU won 8-2 at No. 1, 8-1 at No. 2 and 8-0 at No. 3.

SMU, which improves to 3-3 overall with the win, returns to action Saturday, March 4, when the Cardinal host Bethel in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match.
