Cardinals make it look easy in rolling to 9-0 nonconference victory MILWAUKEE, Wis. The Saint Mary's University men's tennis team made it look easy Saturday afternoon, as the Cardinals swept all nine matches eight in straight sets en route to a 9-0 nonconference win over Milwaukee School of Engineering. Tyler Stevenson (Neenah, Wis.) extended his unbeaten streak to six straight, easily disposing of Ryan Balke 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Walter Mannino (Chicago, Ill.) improved to 5-1 on the year picking up his fifth straight win with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at No. 2 singles while Adam Solseth (Shakopee, Minn.), Dan Fahey (Brookfield, Ill.) and Dustin Kresen (Riverside, Ill.) were also straight-set winners. Only Tony Miller (Rochester, Minn.) was taken to a third set, as the SMU junior rebounded from a first-set loss to beat Yiannis Glavas 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. The Cardinals, who lost just 21 games in sweeping the singles, were even more impressive in doubles, where SMU won 8-2 at No. 1, 8-1 at No. 2 and 8-0 at No. 3. SMU, which improves to 3-3 overall with the win, returns to action Saturday, March 4, when the Cardinal host Bethel in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match. |
