Braun breaks her own school record to highlight Cardinals' effort After all, it had been nearly two months since his Cardinals had knocked off Augsburg in its last dual meet. And the Cardinals did not disappoint. Danielle Braun (Cold Spring, Minn.) broke her own school record in the 200 breaststroke and helped the 200 medley relay team to a first-place finish in SMU's 115-88 dual-meet loss to St. Catherine Friday at the Jul Gernes Pool. "I figured coming in that the meet was going to be close, and it actually turned out be closer than I thought it would," said Lindquist. "It was just nice to finally get back into a competitive environment again and I thought the ladies did an outstanding job. "We went 9-for-18 in season-best swims, which is pretty impressive, considering how hard we've been training." Braun, who had held the 200 breaststroke record at 2:37.27, touched the wall in 2:36.95 in winning the event Friday night, while also teaming with Kasey Schultz (Cary, Ill.), Andrea Hills (Lake Elmo, Minn.) and Lisa Salm (Chilton, Wis.) to take first in the 200 medley relay. "This was a great meet for us we needed to compete against someone other than ourselves and we did a nice job," said Lindquist, whose team is back in the pool on Saturday, traveling to UW-River Falls for a dual meet. "It's going to be tough going back-to-back, but I'm also looking forward to see how we rebound after tonight's meet." |
