Final team scores don't show just how good invite was for SMU
But that didn't faze the Cardinals and their performance in the five-team invitational was, in a nutshell, a season-best "I think I'll say it after every meet, but it's the truth the final team scores do not matter to me," said Lindquist, whose teams both placed fifth Saturday, well back of Luther, which swept both the men's and women's team titles. "If you look at just the team standings, it would be easy to say that we didn't have a very good meet. But all you have to do is look at our swims the fact that of the 42 swims, we had 35 season-bests. "How can you be disappointed with that?" You can't. "It was a fun meet," continued Lindquist. "Everyone competed so hard and did such a nice job. There was some very good competition out there, and for us to perform they way we did I'm very pleased." Brian Joyce (Chicago, Ill.) led the way for the SMU men, posting a third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.80), while also taking seventh in the 500 freestyle (5:27.60) and ninth in the 200 freestyle (1:56.05). Danielle Braun (Cold Spring, Minn.) posted a fifth (1:14.62) and a sixth (2:44.10) in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, respectively, while Sarah Hayden (Chatfield, Minn.) was sixth in both the 1-meter (152.30) and 3-meter (144.80) diving competitions, and Lisa Salm (Chilton, Wis.) tallied sixths in the 50 (27.53) and 200 freestyle (2:12.67) and a seventh in the 100 freestyle (1:00.06). "We had so many good performance today," said Lindquist. "This was a meet that had a high level of competition, and I thought we did a great job top to bottom." |
