Cardinals eager to get back in competitive mode with home invite
WINONA, Minn. Its been two weeks since the Saint Marys University swimming and diving teams last competed.
But the memories of that dual-meet debacle against Gustavus certainly havent faded.
Gustavus is such a deep, deep team, said SMU coach Eric Lindquist, whose men lost 128-91, while the women were beaten 142-88 despite the fact that, while half of the Gusties competed against the Cardinals, the other half was in the Twin Cities, competing in another meet. Its tough to compete against a team thats that deep, and it makes it that much tougher knowing that they can split their squad in half and still dominate the way they did.
Despite the lopsided final scores, not all was lost for the Cardinals, who got first-place finishes in five individual events.
Lindsay DeLaRosby (Two Harbors, Minn.) captured the 100 meter freestyle, touching the wall in 1:01.47, while diver Holly Fujii (Elk Grove, Ill.) won the three-meter competition with a score of 187.80.
On the mens side, Logan Twedt (Hastings, Minn.) won the 1,000 freestyle (11:19.31), while Scott Schultz (Cary, Ill.) stopped the clock first in the 100 backstroke (57.98) and Erik Oksnevad (Blaine, Minn.) won the one-meter diving competition, blowing away the field with a score of 239.2.
We had some very good swims Logan dominated the 1,000, Scott swam a solid race in the 100 back, Erik and Holly were outstanding on the board, and Lindsay continued to show why she is one of our top sprinters, said Lindquist. Hopefully those types of performances, along with a good couple of weeks of training, have us ready to put on a good show (today at the SMU Invitational).
