As I sit and reflect on my past four years here at Saint Marys University, I must say that it has been quite a ride. It has also gone by unbelievably fast. I can remember the first time I put on that bright red Saint Marys jersey. I felt an overwhelming sense of pride to wear it and be a part of a team that was so successful at such a high caliber of play. Today, as graduation stands before me, I feel the same way. It has truly been a privilege to play softball here at Saint Marys University. First, I would like to extend my thanks to the coaches for the time and effort they have devoted to the team. It is not easy to pick up where our team left off as new coaches, but you have all done a great job. Thank you. Good luck to you in the future. Thank-you, also, to the fans. There is nothing like playing in front of a full crowd that is so energetic and supportive. Youre the best fans around! I would also like to offer thanks to the other Bulldogs. Thanks for being such a great group of ballplayers, but more importantly, a great group of girls. I will never forget our times together both between the chalk lines, and outside of them. Thanks for all the smiles and laughter! Keep up the hard work and dedication in all that you do. It will pay off. Dont give up. I wish you nothing but success in the seasons to come. Most importantly, I would like to thank my parents for their endless support in all that I do, both on and off the field. You have always stood by my decisions and for that I will always be grateful. At each game I could look out in the crowd and see your smiling faces cheering me on; thank you for rarely missing a game, and never missing a tournament, no matter how far the distance. It has meant a lot to me. Mom, thank you for putting up with me, even when you didnt want to. Dad, thank you for introducing this great game to me, and making me love it as much as you do. I will never forget all the times that we walked over to the field and practiced for hours. Each time we played catch, and each time you pitched to me, you taught me more about the game, and how important it is to work hard. Thank you for pushing me, even when I did not want to be pushed. I am a better player today because of it. Thank you for being my coach of 10 years and my No. 1 fan. I am so happy that I could share my experiences and achievements with both of you. As I put on my uniform one last time, I would like to extend my appreciation to everyone who has been involved in this team. It is made up of truly special people. I have learned and grown so much as a result of my academic and athletic experiences here that I will never forget. The memories and friendships I have made, I will take with me. They will last a lifetime. True motivation is found inside yourself; neither I or anyone else can teach it. It takes hard work and dedication, and a love for what you are doing to reach those goals you set for yourself. Dot Richardson |
